The teleprinter here at RCN Sports Desk looks like seeing some hot action this weekend as two of the U.K.'s finest gay football teams clash over the ball. Yes 1pm on Sunday 17th February the whistle will blow and Scotland’s first gay football team HotScots FC and London’s Leftfooters will go head to head, tackle to tackle and ball to ball. The first time such a contest has happen between Scotland and England this fixture looks full of promise. Something HotScots FC Chairman Kevin Rowe is looking forward to. “We are delighted to welcome the Leftfooters to Edinburgh and look forward to a competitive game on Sunday. The date is even more significant in HotScots history as it will be a year to the day when the very first advert went into the press asking for players and fans to come forward to join this new group. A year on and the HotScots now have over 80 members as well as regular training sessions twice a week and several fixtures scheduled for the coming months. Thanks to supporters such as FitLads.net & The Regent for the reception on Sunday, we’ve come a long way.”

The Leftfooters are founder members of the Gay National League in England and will host the Gay World Cup in August where the HotScots will represent Scotland for the first time in an international competition. HotScots FC are actively seeking sponsors to fund this venture so please contact them for further details. HotScots FC are Scotland’s first football team aimed at the LGBT community (lesbian, gay, bisexual & transgender) formed in February 2007. They provide a safe environment for LGBT people to play and follow football yet not feel alienated or concerned that their sexuality may be an issue. The Leftfooters are a fun based football team made up mainly of gay and lesbian players. They play every Sunday afternoon in London’s Regents Park, and have a laid back approach of 'jumpers-for-goalposts.' But don’t let that fool you; this is a serious team with numerous appearances in 5/6/7-a-side tournaments. They’ve also competed in a national gay 11-a-side league with gay teams from Brighton, Bristol, Leicester and Yorkshire as well playing in tournaments in Copenhagen, France and Berlin.

So you know what to do. Get yourself down to the terraces, (okay the leisure centre!), on Sunday and chant for the ones you love. Sheepskin coats optional.
