community newsRevenge at PrideMonday, 28 June 2010 The controversial Pride bars contract awarded to 19 Events Limited has been withdrawn following the fledgling company's failure to pay any of the agreed money, it has been revealed. Pride, after talks with alternative companies who had expressed interest in running the bars on the park, has now awarded the contract to Club Revenge in a new four-year deal. In a separate sponsorship deal and in addition to the contract fee, Revenge has also agreed to make a "substantial" sponsorship donation to Pride in Brighton & Hove. The move comes after much controversy over the previous, albeit short-lived contract and followed the breakdown of the original deal with Aeon Events Ltd. Revenge operated the bars contract from 2005 til 2008 and Pride has indicated that it is a welcome return for Brighton's largest gay club venue. In a press release from Pride last night, Chair, Robert Clothier, said: Revenge and the Bar Revenge (formerly R-Bar) are well known and respected local LGBT brands, who fully understand and support the aims of Pride in Brighton & Hove. Pride acknowledges that the path to this excellent solution has not run smoothly, but are pleased that we can, at last, concentrate our energies on delivering the best Pride ever. Following the move local gay bar Vavoom has also returned to the Park, after initially withdrawing amid concerns over the Park event. Seaside restaurant Buddies will also return to run the bar in the Members' Enclosure. General Manager of Club Revenge, Andrew Roberts, said: “We are excited to be working with Pride to ensure that our much loved event goes ahead in the way that we all have come to expect. It is an important day not only for local businesses and for Brighton as a city, but for the thousands of LGBT individuals to whom this one day is so significant." Detailed negotiations continue with a well-known local dance club promoter over the dance tent and an announcement is expected shortly. Revenge will also be operating the Pop Tent, whilst the Cabaret Tent will be organised by Pride Chair, Robert Clothier in his cabaret persona capacity, Lady James. Other confirmed features of the Preston Park festival which follows the Pride Parade on Saturday 7th August includes The Bears' Tent, The Girls' Bar, funfair and stalls. With just 45 days to go it is hoped that the media controversy surrounding Pride's previous decisions can be put aside as the organisation and the city concentrates on delivering one of the top free Pride events in the world.
