I heart Vauxhall Street Party 2008...
review
The I Love Vauxhall Street Festival Against Hate Crime (now there's a mouthful!) was one of the biggest gay festival events of the year so far. The event was totally free and - as it took place on Bank Holiday Sunday - a huge number of people turned out to celebrate.
Two stages played music at both ends of the street - the I Love Vauxhall Main Stage and the Gaydar Cabaret stage. The Main DJ Stage featured some of the Gay Scene’s best DJs headlining, such as Steve Pitron, Stevie B, Gonzalo, Paul Heron and many more. The Cabaret
Stage was hosted by the fabulous Miss Kimberly and featured the cream of London’s Cabaret and alternative scene.
Lots of Street Entertainers, a Later Chill-out Garden with Jacuzzi, sponsored by Chariots, Bars, Food Stands, and Market Stalls were really busy with people dancing, eating, drinking and talking while the event continued.
The Orange group who were the organisers of the event together with Chariots, opened Area and Depot clubs to use as toilets for event attendees. Great idea! Well done Orange Group and Chariots for giving something back to your faithful audience for FREE and for thinking of I Love Vauxhall day.
The festival was in conjunction with Lambeth Police Hate Crime Initiative and they were doing collections on the day.
It was without a doubt a great success and we're obviously hoping it'll return next year!
